Clear answers, without the sales pitch.
Your Repair Report is free, and no payment is needed to receive it. A personal home repair project manager is optional and costs $14.99 one time. Here are the questions homeowners ask before they decide: what each includes, who gets contacted, what happens with estimates and changes, and what still needs a professional in person.
Before you decide
What is 2ndmynd?
Free repair help for homeowners, from the homeowner’s side of the repair. Start with a free Repair Report that explains what may be wrong, which type of professional to call, what it may cost when supported, and what to ask before you approve any work. If you’d rather not manage the rest yourself, you can add a personal home repair project manager for $14.99 one time: we find local professionals for the repair, contact the ones you approve, and help coordinate appointments and keep estimates, changes, and the final bill organized. 2ndmynd isn’t a contractor marketplace, and you make every decision.
What do I get for free?
Your full Repair Report: what may be happening, which type of professional to call, cost context when your details support it, safety guidance where it applies, questions worth asking, and what to verify before you approve work. Finding and contacting specific local contractors isn’t part of the free report; that’s the optional project manager. No payment is required to see or use any of it, and it’s useful on its own. The free part is the guidance, not the repair: any visit, diagnosis, or repair is paid to the contractor.
What is the Personal Home Repair Project Manager?
We work for you — not the contractor. It’s optional help managing one repair, from the first visit to the final bill. We coordinate the contractors you approve and organize estimate visits around your availability. Then you can upload estimates to see what each covers and why they differ, ask questions about your project, see what a change order adds, and compare the final invoice with what you agreed to. You still choose who to hire, what work to approve, and what to pay.
What exactly does the $14.99 cover?
One repair, one time: a search for local professionals for your repair, outreach to up to five contractors you approve, estimate appointment coordination, one dashboard for responses and updates, estimate review and comparison, project questions, change order review, and a final invoice check against your record. It’s optional, and your Repair Report is free either way. The fee covers the local search, coordination with the contractors you approve, and the project-management tools. It does not guarantee a contractor responds or an appointment, and contractor charges are separate. See how the project manager helps.
Is this a subscription?
No. Your personal home repair project manager is a one-time purchase for one repair. There is no recurring fee.
Why wouldn’t I just search Google myself?
You can. Google gives you names, though, not which trade your repair needs, what it should reasonably cost, or what an estimate leaves out. 2ndmynd starts with the problem, not the contractor, and with a project manager it does the searching and calling for you.
Do contractors pay 2ndmynd to rank higher in my results?
No. Contractors cannot pay 2ndmynd to move higher in your recommendations. When you add a project manager, we look for appropriate local options based on the repair, location, trade, and the homeowner’s situation. See how we find local contractors.
What if I don’t know what kind of contractor I need?
That’s normal, and it’s where we start. Your Repair Report points to the type of professional the repair likely needs. With a project manager, we then search for local professionals of that type who serve your address.
What if I don’t know what’s actually broken?
You don’t need to. A photo or a few words is enough to start. Your Repair Report explains what may be going on in plain language, and a professional confirms the cause on site.
Estimates, changes, and the final bill
Can you help me understand an estimate?
Yes, with a project manager. Upload an estimate to see what work it describes, what it leaves out, and what’s worth asking about, like exclusions, warranty, permits, or how changes are handled. It explains what the estimate says; it doesn’t tell you whether to accept it.
Can you compare estimates from different contractors?
Yes. With two or more reviewed estimates, you can see why the totals differ. Often the estimates don’t cover the same work. The comparison never rates or ranks contractors, and it never tells you whom to hire.
What if the contractor sends a change order?
Upload it to see what changed compared with your reviewed estimate and how it affects the price. Reviewing a change order doesn’t approve it. That decision is yours.
Can you check my final invoice?
Yes. You confirm the amount you agreed to and the change orders you approved, upload the final invoice, and see how it compares with that record, so any difference is easy to spot and ask about. 2ndmynd doesn’t track payments or tell you what to pay.
Can I ask questions about my project?
Yes. Ask My Project Manager answers questions about your repair using your Repair Report, your estimates, and what’s been recorded. It answers questions; it doesn’t contact anyone or take actions for you.
Will you tell me if a contractor is taking advantage of me?
No. We don’t judge anyone’s honesty. We help you spot unclear scope, missing information, unexplained price differences, and changes worth asking about. Unclear information is a reason to ask questions, not proof that something is wrong.
Contractors and outreach
Do you choose the contractor for me?
No. With a project manager, we show matched local options after purchase and you approve who we may contact, up to five. You also decide whether to accept any appointment option.
Do you contact anyone without my permission?
No. We contact only the contractors you approve, and only after you submit your scheduling request.
How many contractors will you contact?
Up to five matched contractors that you approve.
What happens if contractors don’t respond?
We may contact another contractor from the list you approved. We never substitute a contractor you didn’t approve. If no one can schedule, you’ll see that in your scheduling status.
Do you guarantee an appointment?
No. We work toward at least three appointment options when enough appropriate contractors are available and willing to schedule. Contractor response and availability vary. See what estimate scheduling involves.
What happens after an appointment option is found?
You’ll see it in your scheduling status with the contractor, the time, and any fee they shared. You choose whether to accept it or ask for a different time.
How will I know which contractors are scheduled?
Your Project Dashboard lists every confirmed appointment in date order and calls out the next one.
Do I have to keep checking the website?
No. Your Project Dashboard shows every contractor response, appointment option, and confirmed visit as it happens, so you can check in whenever it suits you instead of waiting on calls. We don’t send automatic email or text updates today.
What happens when a contractor confirms?
The option appears in your scheduling status. After you accept it, the confirmed visit appears in your upcoming appointments.
What if a contractor doesn’t show up?
After the appointment time, tell us they did not show. We record it, keep your next confirmed appointment visible, and show whether bounded outreach is still in progress.
What happens if I already have three appointments scheduled?
Three is the usual target when enough contractors are available. Scheduling outreach may be closed while your upcoming appointments and follow-up remain available.
Can I cancel the remaining appointments if I no longer need them?
Yes. After a contractor visits, you can request cancellation of later appointments. We confirm each cancellation with the contractor.
Can I keep multiple appointments if I want more than one estimate?
Yes. One completed visit never cancels the others automatically. You can keep later appointments to compare estimates.
How long can I access my Project Dashboard?
It remains available with your case. Private status links are time-limited; signed-in case access keeps your Repair Report and project history together.
Will you negotiate the contractor’s price?
No. We don’t negotiate or set contractor pricing. Your Repair Report gives you cost context so you can ask informed questions.
Do I pay the contractor through 2ndmynd?
No. Contractor diagnosis, service, and repair charges are separate and paid to the contractor.
Your Repair Report
What does the Repair Report help me do?
Know who should handle the repair, what it may reasonably cost, what to ask, and what to verify before you approve work.
How does cost guidance help me?
It gives you a frame of reference before anyone quotes. When your repair details support it, you’ll see typical ranges and what can change them. It is not a quote.
Is the Repair Report a diagnosis?
No. It organizes the evidence and ranks plausible causes. A qualified professional should confirm the exact cause on site.
Can I use the Repair Report even if I don’t hire anyone?
Yes. Your Repair Report stays available to you whether or not you book an appointment.
Getting started
Can I use 2ndmynd without an account?
Yes. You can describe the repair, get your free Repair Report, and, if you add a personal home repair project manager, pay, approve contractors, and follow your Project Dashboard without creating an account. An account is optional, for easier access later.
When do I pay, and what happens next?
Only if you add a personal home repair project manager, after your Repair Report is ready. You pay $14.99 once, then approve who we may contact and add your contact details and availability.
Where is this available?
2ndmynd serves homeowners across the United States. Availability depends on the repair location, local contractor coverage, and current project manager capacity. Enter the service address to confirm the next step.
Is this for emergencies?
No. Your personal home repair project manager is not emergency dispatch. If you have an unsafe or emergency situation, leave the area and contact 911, the fire department, your utility emergency line, or an appropriate emergency professional.
Privacy
Are my photos and details public?
No. What you upload is private to your case. It is used to prepare your Repair Report and to support contractor outreach you approve.
What information do you share with contractors?
Only what’s needed to arrange the repair, and only with contractors you approve: your contact details, the service address, a repair summary, and your availability. You authorize this before we contact anyone.
Do you vet or certify contractors?
No. Contractor options are informational search results, not endorsements. Licensing requirements vary by location, so verify any required license before hiring.
What does “we work for the homeowner” mean?
The homeowner controls the repair context and decides which contractors may be contacted. The free Repair Report helps you understand the issue; the personal home repair project manager is optional help managing the repair, from contractor outreach to the final invoice. Here is how that differs from a contractor marketplace.
